3 New Toyota Fortuner Rivals Coming To India This Year

The Toyota Fortuner will get three new rivals soon, offering customers looking for a new premium SUV a wide range of options

Premium SUV options in the INR 35-50 lakh (ex-showroom) range are limited right now, with the most popular one being the Toyota Fortuner. Three new models will be introduced in this segment in the coming months.

On 14 April, Volkswagen will launch the third-generation Tiguan in India, exclusively in the sporty R Line grade. The company will offer it with features like an illuminated light band between the headlamps, 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels, sports seats, a 30-colour ambient lighting system, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a dual-zone automatic climate control system, and a panoramic sunroof.

Under the hood, the Tiguan R Line has a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 201 hp and 320 Nm of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a permanent all-wheel drive system send direct drive to the wheels. Volkswagen offers the Tiguan R Line in Persimmon Red Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, Oryx White with Mother of Pearl Effect, Oyster Silver Metallic, and Nightshade Blue Metallic colours. The company will import this model as a CBU, and so the price will be steep, likely around INR 50 lakh (ex-showroom).

Customers looking for a seven-seat SUV can look forward to the second-generation Skoda Kodiaq. Skoda is considering three different configurations, one with five seats and two with seven seats. The company will likely offer it with features like 18-inch alloy wheels, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 13-inch touchscreen infotainment system, configurable smart dials with 1.3-inch displays, electrically adjustable front seats with a ventilation function, a 15-watt dual wireless smartphone charger, and a panoramic sunroof.

Skoda should offer the Kodiaq with a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 190 hp and 320 Nm of torque, along with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and a permanent all-wheel drive system. The company will locally assemble this model from imported knocked-down kits and may price from under INR 40 lakh (ex-showroom). It expects to conduct the launch at the end of April.

Also arriving in showrooms this summer will be the MG Majestor, a facelifted version of the MG Gloster. The new body-on-frame SUV has a more aggressive exterior, featuring split headlamps, a more aggressive front grille, and chunky skid plates. Inside, too, it has a refreshed design and packs new features, like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, for instance. New advanced driver assistance systems are also expected.

JSW MG Motor is expected to offer the MG Majestor with a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel mill good for 216 hp and 479 Nm of torque. An 8-speed automatic transmission should be standard, while an on-demand 4WD system is expected as an option.
