Renault to create a more diverse portfolio with bigger and more expensive models as well as hybrid and electric powertrains
After a big gap of four and a half years, Renault will resume launching new cars in India this year. The company’s upcoming models will include hybrid and electric models as well. “We were shy in the past,” Renault India CEO Venkatram Mamillapalle said in an interview with Bloomberg, acknowledging the company’s sluggishness on the product front so far. “Now, we are going aggressive,” Mamillapalle added, signalling a turning point in the company’s approach.
Renault will first launch the facelifted Kiger and facelifted Triber, with the first one of the two coming in July. Mamillapalle said the company plans to introduce four new SUVs and two electric cars over the next few years.
In addition to electric cars, hybrid models are also seeing strong traction in our market, and Renault aims to capitalise on this additional opportunity. Further into the interview, Mamillapalle revealed that Renault plans to begin introducing hybrid and electric models in India by 2027. He did not reveal the name or segments of the electrified products, though. Local reports say the first EV will go on sale by 2027.

Following the facelifted Kiger and facelifted Triber, we already know that the expanded ICE line-up will include the third-generation Renault Duster and the first-ever Renault Bigster, both also due by 2027. The former is expected to go on sale in early 2026, while the latter could follow in late 2026 or early 2027.
Dacia has revealed the Bigster with five seats for Europe, and according to Denis Le Vot, the company’s CEO, there’s no plan to offer it in a three-row version as that would impact second-row comfort and make the vehicle heavier, necessitating more electrification, Autocar reported. However, in India, Renault is likely to offer the Bigster as a three-row model, targeting bigger families.

Renault sold just 38,636 cars and held a market share of just 0.93% in FY2025. The company aims to grow its market share threefold with five new cars by 2027. Along with the product line-up, the French automaker will expand its retail footprint. Currently, it has 362 touchpoints in India.
On 22 April, Renault opened a new design centre in Chennai, its largest such overseas facility, showing its commitment to the market. The new studio should help it design the upcoming models with a much greater local input. The company had design centres in Pune and Mumbai as well, but it has closed them. The Chennai facility is three times the size of the one that was present in Mumbai.
