Maruti Suzuki, which currently has two strong hybrid vehicles in its product lineup (Grand Vitara and Invicto), plans to expand its hybrid range by the end of the decade. The OEM is developing an in-house strong hybrid powertrain for its mass-market vehicles including the Fronx, Baleno, Swift, Brezza and all-new small MPV. The plan also outlines a premium three-row SUV based on the Grand Vitara, expected to arrive in the second half of 2025. Key Details of the upcoming Maruti strong hybrid cars:

– The first model to arrive, the 7-seater Maruti Grand Vitara, will share platform, powertrains, design and interior with its 5-seater sibling. This means, it will come with the 1.5L K15C petrol mild hybrid and 1.5L Atkinson cycle petrol options.

– The Maruti Fronx will be the first model to feature Maruti Suzuki’s own strong hybrid technology. It will be offered only with the Z-Series petrol engine, borrowed from the Swift. The same engine is likely to be offered with the upcoming Baleno, Swift and Brezza hybrid models.

– The upcoming Maruti strong hybrid cars will be high on fuel efficiency. These vehicles are expected to offer a mileage of around 35kmpl – 40kmpl.

– Maruti is developing a series hybrid system, which will be significantly cost-effective than the series-parallel technology. In fact, it will have lower maintenance costs and emission levels.

– The Indo-Japanese automaker plans to introduce a Spacia (Japan-spec) based mini MPV in 2026. Codenamed YDB, this compact MPV will be positioned below the Ertiga, and will compete with the Renault Triber and Nissan’s upcoming Triber-based MPV.

– Maruti Suzuki’s top-selling Brezza subcompact SUV will also go hybrid with its next-generation model in 2029.
