Developed through the Beijing Hyundai JV, the upcoming all-electric Hyundai SUV is expected to be underpinned by the E-GMP platform
Hyundai is gearing up to introduce a brand new all-electric SUV exclusively for Chinese customers and it has been teaser recently. Developed through the Beijing Hyundai joint venture, the teaser points the finger at a camouflaged prototype undergoing rigorous cold-weather testing and we can expect it to boast an e-4WD configuration.
Even though most of the SUV’s design remains hidden, some unique details are visible, differentiating it from the global flagships such as the three-row Ioniq 9. More interestingly, the overall styling is nothing similar to what we have seen from Hyundai yet. The teaser highlights a sharp-looking LED strip linking the headlamps.
In addition, the rear features an U-shaped LED light bar running across the width and a muscular shoulder line that leads to an upright boot structure with an integrated spoiler. You could also see functional roof rails, raked front windshield and pillars enabling a large greenhouse. The overall profile looks rather clean and an air inlet can be noted at the front.

The Beijing Hyundai JV currently sells IC-engined models like the Elantra, Santa Fe, Tucson L, Mufasa and Sonata in China. The arrival of a brand new zero-emission vehicle will certain help appeal to a wide range of customers as the Chinese market is the largest consumer of all-electric vehicles. It comes on the back of Hyundai opening a new EV research and development facility in Shanghai.
The brand has not revealed any technical details yet. Considering the Korean brand’s success in the international markets, the forthcoming e-SUV is expected to sit on the modular E-GMP skateboard architecture. It will be a tough challenge as the market is the most competitive in the world in terms of EV sales scale and technologies, dominated by homegrown players.
