The Kia Syros was recently subjected to the Bharat NCAP crash tests, where it performed so well, scoring a 5-star safety rating for both adult occupant protection and child occupant protection. In the subcompact SUV segment, it competes directly with newly-launched Skoda Kylaq and segment-leader Tata Nexon. Both of its arch rivals also received five-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP. Key Findings:

All three subcompact SUV secured five-star safety rating in the adult safety crash tests. However, it’s the Skoda Kylaq which scored highest points in the adult occupant protection and frontal offset deformable barrier tests. In the latter test, it offered ‘good’ protection for all critical body parts of the driver, except the chest and left tibia, which were rated as ‘adequate’ protection.

In the side movable deformable barrier tests, the Syros outperformed the Nexon and Kylaq by scoring 16 points out of 16. The results showed that the SUV provided ‘good’ protection to all body parts of the driver’s body. The Nexon and Kylaq compact SUV scored 14.65 and 15.04 points out of 16, respectively.

When it comes to the child protection, the Skoda Kylaq takes the lead with total scores of 45 points out of 49. The Syros received 44.42 points, while the Nexon managed to gain 43.83 points out of maximum 49.

Similarly, the Kylaq secured the top position with 24 points out of 24 in the child safety dynamic tests. Kia’s Syros and Tata’s Nexon scored 23.42 and 22.83 points out of 24, respectively.

The CRS installation and vehicle assessment scores for all three subcompact SUV stood at 12 points out of 12 and 9 out of 13 points, respectively.

Conclusion:

The Skoda Kylaq is the top performer among the three subcompact SUVs, achieving the highest score in both adult and child occupant protection. The Syros and Nexon fell just short of Skoda’s SUVs in overall safety scores.
