2025 Volvo S90 Facelift Unveiled With A Host Of New Updates

2025 Volvo S90 facelift gets visual enhancements and new technologies; derives power from a PHEV system or a mild-hybrid engine

The flagship Volvo sedan has quietly evolved for 2025 as the refreshed S90 has received a number of notable updates inside and out. Aimed primarily at markets such as China, the updated S90 gets new styling amongst a host of other revisions. The redesigned front fascia and sculpted bonnet lead into a more assertive grille while the slimmer Thor’s Hammer headlights incorporate the brand’s new matrix LED system.

At the rear, reworked taillights complete a sharper silhouette. It also gains newly designed diamond cut wheels and two new exterior paint schemes namely Aurora Silver and Mulberry Red. The cabin, meanwhile, stays true to Volvo’s minimalist philosophy. A new floating 11.2-inch infotainment screen now anchors the centre console, powered by Volvo’s latest interface.

Faster and more intuitive than the outgoing system, it also supports over-the-air software updates. Inside, new materials and acoustic improvements are coupled with adaptive suspension as standard. Under the hood, the S90 facelift offers two drivetrain options. The plug-in hybrid variant delivers up to 80 kilometres of electric-only range under WLTP testing.

Volvo suggests many owners can complete daily drives without touching a drop of fuel. For those leaning traditional, a mild hybrid variant featuring a front-wheel-drive turbo four-cylinder remains available. Safety, as expected from Volvo, remains a core tenet. Pilot Assist returns with enhancements, offering adaptive cruise and lane-keeping assist not only on highways but in urban congestion as well.

The safety suite also builds on Volvo’s passive protection systems with a reinforced structure and standard collision avoidance system. Positioned alongside the all-electric ES90, the updated S90 may help Volvo keep a foothold in the premium sedan space, especially in markets where large executive cars still hold sway.

Scheduled to go on sale in China in the coming months, the 2025 Volvo S90 facelift will hit other markets down the line. For India though, the Swedish brand only sells the S60 and whether the updated S90 will be considered or not is yet unknown.
