Bajaj Auto has reclaimed the crown with the Chetak as it has become the number one electric scooter with 29 per cent market share in Q4 FY24-25
Bajaj Chetak is back on top, securing a commanding 29 per cent market share in India’s electric scooter segment in Q4 of FY 2024-25. A brand that once defined the scooter market in the country between 1970s and 1990s, Chetak has re-established its leadership in its electric form. The comeback hasn’t happened in isolation though and let us take a deep dive into it.
Bajaj Auto brought in two new variants of the Chetak in 2024 including the 35 Series. Packed with modern updates like integrated floorboard batteries and safety technologies. The Chetak not only leads nationally but owns half the EV scooter market in Maharashtra, India’s largest EV consuming state. Add to that the strength of Bajaj Auto’s 3,800+ sales and service points across India has played a pivotal role.
It must be noted that over 2 lakh units were sold in 2024 alone. Today, 40 per cent of the brand’s domestic revenue comes from CNG and electric vehicles. Bajaj was a first mover with CNG three-wheelers back in 2001 and now it is on top again with recent launches such as the world’s first CNG motorcycle – Bajaj Freedom – and its latest electric three-wheeler, the Bajaj GoGo.

The flagship Chetak 3501 variant is sold with an assortment of features such as a five-inch touchscreen TFT display with smartphone connectivity, music controls, integrated maps, document storage and geo-fencing. The 35 series comes with a 950 W on-board quick charger and can charge from 0 to per cent in just three hours.
