Volkswagen Taigun prices have reduced by Rs. 1.43 lakh reportedly while some variants have witnessed a price hike of Rs. 13,000
Volkswagen India seems to be switching things up with its Taigun lineup and not in a way you would expect across the board. According to a report, the brand has revised pricing for the midsize SUV and while some variants have become noticeably more affordable, others are now slightly dearer. The headline here is the price cut that goes as high as Rs. 1.43 lakh on select variants.
It is clear Volkswagen is looking to attract more buyers and the price drop may just be due to stay competitive in a segment that has been heating up with rivals. The Taigun Highline 1.0 AT now comes in a whole Rs. 1.43 lakh cheaper while its manual counterpart gets a significant Rs. 88,500 slash.
In a market where automatic options usually carry a hefty premium, this price correction suddenly makes the Taigun Highline AT a much more tempting proposition for buyers sitting on the fence. On the flip side, Volkswagen hasn’t extended this generosity to the entire lineup. Most of the other Taigun variants have quietly crept up in price with hikes of up to Rs 13,000.
The GT 1.5 MT and GT 1.5 DSG are the only ones left untouched in this round of revisions. Elsewhere no revisions have been made. The Volkswagen Taigun comes in two powertrain options — 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre. Its 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine delivers 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque.
The more powerful 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine puts out 150 PS of maximum power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The transmission options are a six-speed manual, a six-speed torque converter automatic and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic unit. The German manufacturer hasn’t updated the prices of the Taigun on its official website though.
Some of the highlighting features in the VW Taigun are a 10.1-inch touchscreen, an all-digital instrument console, automatic climate control, six airbags, ventilated and powered front seats, a sunroof and so on. It is underpinned by the heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform, shared with the Skoda Kushaq. In just over a week’s time, Volkswagen will launch the Tiguan R-Line in India.
